Wednesday/Thursday, March 11 & 12: Students took NRI quiz 2 and discussed their SGT in groups. HW: None, enjoy break! NOTE: there are sample One Pagers on the website under "Resources" tab.
Monday/Tuesday, March 9 & 10: Speeches in class. HW: Grammar quiz next class period.
Friday, March 6: Section A: speeches began. Section B: speech prep.
Wednesday/Thursday, March 4 & 5: Students did more public speaking practice & worked on their speech outline. In spare time, students worked on NRI (quiz next week). HW: Finish preparing for speeches, which will start Friday (section A) & Tuesday (Section B).
Monday/Tuesday, March 2 & 3: Students learned the basics of planning a speech & took notes in the writing section of their composition book. Then, students gave impromptu speeches in small groups. Finally, students received their assignment for the speeches that will begin later this week/early next week. They began to visually outline their speech in class. HW: NRI due at 5 on Friday. Wednesday/Thursday, Feb 26 & 27: Students read in class & then responded to writing prompts in the OR section of their composition books. HW: NRI due @5 on Friday. Continue reading in OR books. Note: Conference Day #1 on Friday, bring typed discussion questions to class. See unit handout for details. Sample Question: On page 79, Scout says of Atticus, “It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived." Do you consider Atticus brave? If so, what makes Atticus brave and are there any limits to his bravery?

Essay Prompt: Before writing: Read Miss Gates’ lesson on Germany (pg 328-329) and review the thoughts of the Missionary Society in chapter 24. Respond: What is Lee trying to demonstrate about the town of Maycomb through these two situations? Explain and use the novel as support.
Wednesday/Thursday, January 22-23rd: In the writing portion of your composition book, students wrote an answer (with evidence) to the question: Was Atticus in favor of racial equality? At least 2 pieces of evidence are required. Students then read chapter 25 in TKMB and we discussed Atticus, and then read the end of section 1 in Dear Martin. HW: Read chapter 26 in TKMB.
Monday/Tuesday, January 20-21st: Students did a journal free write, then read chapter 23 in To Kill A Mockingbird in class. We read Dear Martin aloud, and then students read chapter 24 in class. HW: Finish reading chapter 24 in TKMB.
Friday, January 17th: Quiz over chapters 19 & 20. Read Dear Martin, aloud. HW: Read chapters 21 & 22.
